He comes to realize this with more certainty than ever when his on-again, off-again romance with live-in girlfriend Caroline takes the back seat to just one more mission. He loves the thrill of the mission, apparently (she argues) more than her.CAPTAIN LEWIS' BROKEN DREAMS is 15 pages long (minus front- and back-matter, including 4 chapters of a novel by Jacqueline Patricks). The short story encompasses one evening and shows Lewis' tequila-soaked epiphanies, the realizations and turning points that bring about big changes in the course of his career, his love life, and no doubt sets up the series to come. After reading this short story, I'm definitely interested in reading more about this favorite character (Captain Lewis) whom fans had asked Ms. Patricks to write more about!...hence this short story.

Character seems real. Very easy to get drawn in to the story. Great hero!
This was a ok book. think it could of been beter tho. it did speak to me in parts of rhis story.
Good writing. Not well enough fleshed out to be a real draw. Ended with no real denouement. Too disjointed to create a viable product.
I loved Dreams of the Queen and Captain Lewis was one of my favorite characters. I loved reading even just a little about what his character was really like before the mission. Great story!
This was an interesting book to start with and then it changed to what appeared a different story; it wasn't!!!! I realized that this was the way it was constructed. This made for an interesting story that comes together towards the end. Word of advice be patient all will work out.

I recommend this novella. It's short and bittersweet, as the title suggests. It's a prequel to Dreams of the Queen, so you don't need to have read Dreams of the Queen first to know what is going on here, which is nice. It has lots of detail about Captain Lewis and the type of life he led before, especially the army life. I enjoyed seeing the interactions between Captain Lewis and his colleagues as he discovers more about himself as he prepares for another mission. If you enjoyed Dreams of the Queen, you should definitely read this. If you did not read Dreams of the Queen, I recommend reading this first. This novella exemplifies the author's style well, so if you like the pacing and description in here, you will like what comes after it. Just like Dreams of the Queen, this story also contains more mature themes, so you have been warned. Try it, and I think you'll like it!
